The Lucio Outlook Add-in is built for lawyers, and it lives right inside the place where most of your day already happens, your inbox. It reads your mailbox and attachments, drafts replies in your own voice, surfaces insights across months of correspondence, turns your sent emails into timesheet-ready narratives, and automates the repetitive parts of your day.

You can talk to the Assistant, scope it to a single email or any specific folder or your entire inbox, generate narratives from your sent items, and teach it how you write. What it gives back is time, the one thing you cannot bill for or buy more of.

What Lucio can do for you

Everything Lucio does maps onto the everyday work of practising in Outlook:

  • Get up to speed fast. Review a long client thread or a fresh matter email in seconds before you reply.

  • Brief a whole matter. Ask questions across a folder or your entire inbox, for example every deadline you have committed to in a matter, with citations back to the exact source email.

  • Review documents sent to you. Open attachments (.pdf, .doc, .docx) and pull out clauses, dates, parties, and obligations without leaving the email.

  • Bring in your own files. Upload a draft contract or memo so Lucio answers using both the email and your document together.

  • Draft client-ready replies. Produce replies in the tone and length you choose, written in your own voice.

  • Capture your billables. Turn the emails you have sent into timesheet-ready narratives for any day, week, or date range.

  • Reuse earlier work. Reopen any past session and carry its context into a new question.

  • Work the way you do. Teach Lucio your drafting and narrative style, and set your language and regional dialect.

Lucio is organised into two main features, the Assistant and Narrative, plus a Profile section where you teach it how you write.

Features

Assistant

The Assistant is your AI helper inside Outlook. Open any email and it is ready to read it, answer questions, draft a reply, or analyse an attachment, all in the side panel next to your email. It works from exactly what is on your screen and responds the way a sharp junior would, focused, direct, and grounded in the source.

Getting around the panel

The top of the panel holds your controls: start a new chat, open History, delete a session, and reach your Profile. The chat box sits at the bottom, with the filter selector, a paperclip to attach files, and a microphone for voice.

The Lucio side panel, with every control labelled.

Smart Suggestions

Every time you open an email, Lucio reads it and offers three of the most useful actions for that email. There is no need to type, just click a suggestion and Lucio handles it. The suggestions change with the email: an attachment shows Analyse the attachment, a client question shows Draft a reply, a long chain shows Summarize the thread.

Three smart suggestions, tailored to the email in front of you.

Filters: choose what Lucio should look at

Before you ask, tell Lucio where to look. The filter sits just above the chat box and offers five scopes.

Current Email or Thread, the default when you open a single email or a chain.

All Emails, searches your whole inbox and answers with citations.

Folder, scope a question cleanly to one matter folder.

Custom, hand-pick the exact emails Lucio should use.

You can switch filters mid-conversation, and Lucio widens or narrows its scope without losing the thread of the chat.

Ask Lucio anything

Once your filter is set, type your question in the chat box. Lucio gives plain-language answers, reads attachments, drafts replies, and surfaces insights across many emails. Every answer carries citations to the exact email or attachment it used, so you can click through and verify a date, a name, or a clause before you rely on it.

The Ask Lucio box. Type your prompt, attach a file, or dictate by voice.

Examples lawyers commonly ask: summarise all correspondence with a client over the last six months; has the counterparty agreed to the indemnity clause in any email so far; list every deadline committed to in this folder; find the email where the share purchase price was last revised.

Upload your own documents

Tap the paperclip to add a document (.pdf, .doc, .docx) straight into the session. Lucio reads it alongside the email, so it can draft a reply using both the client question and a draft contract from your desktop at the same time.

An uploaded document, ready for Lucio to use in its answer.

Voice to text

Do not feel like typing? Tap the microphone and speak your prompt. Lucio turns your voice into the question, useful when you are between meetings or on the move.

History

Every conversation is saved. Reopen a past session to pick up where you left off, bring its context into a new chat, or delete it with a single click. You stay in control of what is kept.

Your past sessions, always within reach.

Narrative

Narrative turns the emails you have sent into timesheet-ready descriptions, the kind you would enter in your billing system at the end of the day. No more digging through your Sent folder trying to reconstruct what you worked on.

What it does

Lucio reads the emails you sent in the period you choose and writes one short, billable narrative for each, in your own phrasing once you have trained Profile. A day with emails to several clients comes out as a clear list, one row per email, ready to review and paste into your time-recording system.

One billable narrative for each email you sent.

Time filters

Choose how far back to look: Today, Week, or Custom. Lucio reads your Sent folder for that period and produces one narrative per email.

Switch between Today, Week, and Custom with a single tap.

Custom date range

Need a specific window? Pick any start and end date and generate narratives for exactly that period. Past requests are saved so you can revisit them.

Request narratives for any date range you choose.

Review, edit, and save

Narrative is a drafting tool, not a replacement for your firm time-recording system. Review each narrative, tighten the wording, then save or copy it across. You still enter time the way you do today, just much faster.

Edit any narrative, then save it.

Profile

Two lawyers can write the same email very differently. Some are formal, some are warm, some keep things short and sharp. Profile is where you teach Lucio your own style, so every draft sounds like you, not a generic AI. It has two tabs.

Narratives tab: train your timesheet style

Upload a few samples of how you describe your work, old timesheets or narrative samples. Lucio learns your phrasing and applies it to the narratives it generates. Refreshing these samples now and then keeps it tuned to your current style.

Two tabs at the top; upload writing samples to teach Lucio your style.

Draft Email tab: train your email style

Turn on Enable Personalization and Lucio studies how you greet, sign off, and phrase things, then applies it to every draft. You can also add specific rules in the preferences boxes, for example always use British English, or keep replies under three sentences unless asked for detail. Personalization is per user, so each lawyer profile stays their own.

Turn on Enable Personalization and add your own drafting rules.

Language

Tap the language icon at the top right of Profile to switch Lucio between English (Indian), English (US), English (UK), and Japanese. Pick the variant your firm and clients use; it keeps spellings, salutations, and date formats consistent. For a one-off, just ask inside the chat, for example translate this draft into Japanese.

Choose the language and regional dialect Lucio should use.

Need help?

Open the chat inside the add-in to reach your Lucio point of contact for onboarding help, a feature you cannot find, or feedback. You can also browse the Help Centre for more articles and examples. When reporting a bug, tell us what you tried, what you expected, and what you saw; screenshots help us fix it faster.
